In the last couple of years, Pune-based packaging machinery manufacturer Nichrome has diversify ed beyond its core expertise of offering form fill seal solutions. According to the company's executive director, Mrunal Joshi, the journey so far has been highly successful.

"Nichrome has been a pioneer in manufacturing form fill seal machines in India for pouches. A couple of years back we decided to offer additional solutions and provide complete end-to-end solutions to our customers. We now offer secondary packaging solutions as well bottle, jar and tin filling lines. All these new offerings have been very well accepted by the market," Joshi said during the India International Dairy Expo (IIDE) 2019 that was held in Mumbai recently.

In terms of the customer base too, the company has diversified beyond food to pharma and speciality products such as seeds and other agricultural products. "We are growing in multiple segments with a much diversified customer base and a varied product line," she added.

The company has been dominant in the manufacturing of form fill seal machinery for pouches but now offers stacking and wrapping solutions, HDPE bag filling system, bottle filling lines for liquid products, bottle filling lines for solid products and tin can filling lines. In secondary packaging segment, Nichrome offers solutions such case packing machines, bailing machines and crating machines.

Commenting on the reasons for Nichrome's success in these new areas in such a short span of time, Joshi said, "Nichrome is a highly trusted brand and customers today want credible partners. This is the most important reason that customers have trust in what we offer."

At IIDE 2019, Nichrome displayed the bottle filling line for liquids. The machine can have two heads to as many as 10 heads, as per customer demand and requirement and can be used to pack items such as flavored water, water, energy drinks, butter milk, ghee and shampoo. The machine also has integrated foil seal- ing and capping functions.

Another machine that the company displayed at the expo was the HDPE bag filling system. This machine can fill HDPE, woven and PP bags.

As shared by Joshi, Nichrome has had a very good financial year 2018-2019 with the success of its core FFS products as well as the new product line. The current 2019-2020 financial year too is expected to be even better as the company consolidates its position in new segments and prepares to offer new products.

The company has developed a vertical doypack machine for standy pouches. According to Joshi, the advantage is that the vertical machine offers much faster speeds that the horizonal machines.

"The machine was launched in September last year and is now the first machine ready to be dispatched. The first installation is expected in a couple of months," she shared.

Nichrome will also focus on its partnership with Italy's Tecnovac to offer tray sealing machines.

"Last financial year was good for us and this year will be better than last year," Joshi concluded.

The impact, resilience, and growth of responsible packaging in a wide region are daily chronicled by Packaging South Asia.

A multi-channel B2B publication and digital platform such as Packaging South Asia is always aware of the prospect of new beginnings and renewal. Its 16-year-old print monthly, based in New Delhi, India hasdemonstrated its commitment to progress and growth. The Indian and Asian packaging industries have shown resilience in the face of ongoing challenges over the past three years.

As we present our publishing plan for 2023, India's real GDP growth for the financial year ending 31 March 2023 will reach 6.3%. Packaging industry growth has exceeded GDP growth even when allowing for inflation in the past three years.

The capacity for flexible film manufacturing in India increased by 33% over the past three years. With orders in place, we expect another 33% capacity addition from 2023 to 2025. Capacities in monocartons, corrugation, aseptic liquid packaging, and labels have grown similarly. The numbers are positive for most of the economies in the region – our platform increasingly reaches and influences these.

Even given the disruptions of supply chains, raw material prices, and the challenge of responsible and sustainable packaging, packaging in all its creative forms and purposes has significant headroom to grow in India and Asia. Our context and coverage engulf the entire packaging supply chain – from concept to shelf and further – to waste collection and recycling. We target brand owners, product managers, raw material suppliers, packaging designers and converters, and recyclers.

In an admittedly fragmented and textured terrain, this is the right time to plan your participation and marketing support communication – in our impactful and highly targeted business platform.
